There are many people in the churches today, and other individuals in this world that deny God’s Holy Word, the bible. Some people have been confused by false teachers and some are simplely miss understood spiritually, because they just don’t know. We should have the right understanding of this subject, “God’s Holy Word,” and with this understanding we should have a greater devotion to our Lord and Savior. Then let us erase any confusion by seeing what eternal security of a believer does mean, and what it does not mean to us. The sinners that will not put their trust in Jesus Christ will perish and miss that Heavenly Home with our Lord and Savior. All the sinners that reject Jesus Christ as their Savior will spend eternity in Hell. And all that have repented of their sins and believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior will a home in Heaven for all eternity. I would just like to remind you that it is not the sins of cheating, lying , stealing, murdering, or even the sin of being unfaithful that sends people to that Devil’s Hell. We should all remember that God said the sin that will send you to Hell is the rejecting of His son Jesus Christ as your Savior. My friends it is so simple to be saved. Just ask Him to forgive you of your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart and He will save you. Then put your trust in Him for all forgiveness of your sins. We have all heard the simple story of the Philippian jailer that asks Paul and Silas the question; what must I do to be saved? They just said, believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shall be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:31) There are people all over this land that can agree on this issue, that we are saved by faith. (Ephesians 2:8-9) The bible clearly teaches us that God’s love for His people is such a magnitude that even, those who walk away from the faith, have not the slightest chance of slipping from the hand of God. (John 6:47) Jesus said, Verily, Verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Questions and Scriptures about the Security of a Believer
1) Does the security of the believer mean that the sin nature is gone?
A) (I John 1:8) – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
The answer is that no child of God can live without sinning.
B) (Romans 5:12) – Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
The answer is the fleshly nature is a sinful nature.
C) (Romans 7:22-23) – For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
The answer is that sin nature is not put off when one is saved.
D) (I Corinthians 15:52) – In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
E) (I Thessalonians 4:17) – Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
F) (Romans 7:24-25) – O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I my self serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
The answer is the sinful nature will be put off when the physical body is put off.
2) Does not the presence of the sin nature give us an excuse to sin?
A) (James 4:7) – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
We must resist temptation.
B) (I Corinthians 9:27) – But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
We must strive to bring our bodies under subjection.
C) (I John 1:9), (I John 2:2) – 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
We must confess sins or be chastened of the Lord our God.
D) (Hebrews 12:5-8) – 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
(Hebrews 12:6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
(Hebrews 12:7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
(Hebrews 12:8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
3) Did the Apostles have to deal with sin in their lives?
A) (John 18:25-27) – 25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
(John 18:26) One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
(John 18:27) Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
B) (I John 1:8) – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
C) (Romans 7:17-19) – 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
(Romans 7:18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
(Romans 7:19) For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Yes, to say that a believer in Christ is secure but it does not mean that sin nature is gone or that one lives above sin.
4) Does security in a believer mean that God over looks sin in the life of the saved?
A) (Proverbs 15:3) – 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

(Hebrews 12:11) Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
C) (I Corinthians 11:31-32) – 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
(I Corinthians 11:32) But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
Yes God condemns and punishes sins in the lives of His children.
D) (Psalms 37:23-24) – 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
(Psalms 37:24) Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
E) (John 6:37) – All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Yes God though He punishes His children, He does it without damning their souls to Hell.
5) Does security of a believer mean that God’s children can do anything that the fleshly nature wants to and does not have to pay for it?
The answer is that God’s Spirit convicts us of sin in our lives, so we must repent or face the consequences.
A) (II Samuel 12:15-19) – 15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17 And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day,that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
B) (I Corinthians 5:5) – 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Yes God took the life of a child to punish a father.
C) (Hebrews 12:6) – 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
6) Does a believer having security mean that the saved person cannot wreck his life and not influence other?
Yes many have done this and their lives are greatly hindered for the Lord’s service.
Satan would like to do that to all of God’s children.
A) (Genesis 19:12-14) – 12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
B) (II Peter 2:6-8) – 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
The godly shall be spared this punishment, as Lot was delivered out of Sodom
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
7) Does Security of a believer mean that God grants eternal life to the ones who believes, and gives him immunity from the danger of Hell?
Yes, life that is eternal cannot be lost.
A) (John 3:14-18) – 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Yes, the believer is given eternal life in Jesus.
B) (John 5:24) – 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Yes, the believer will never be condemned.
C) (II Peter 1:2-4) – 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The believers does not need to fear Hell, they cannot go there.
8) Does security mean that the believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is the earnest or guarantee of the believer’s future inheritance?
A) (Ephesians 1:12-14) – 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Yes, for one saved person to go to Hell would bring about the forfeit of the Holy Spirit’s Word and man’s surety.
With the Holy Spirit as God’s seal of authority, each believer is secure in Christ.
B) (Philippians 1:6) – 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Yes, God is able to finish the good work he began when He first saved man.
9) Does security mean that Jesus is able to save and keep the saved, and those who trust Him, because of His sacrificial death on the cross?
A) (Hebrews 2:9) – But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
B) (II Corinthians 5:21) – 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Yes, Jesus purchased salvation for man, in that He died paying sin’s penalty for man.
C) (John 3:16) – 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
D) (I Timothy 2:4) – 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
E) (II Peter 3:9) – 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Yes, God wants all to be saved
F) (John 6:37) – 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Yes, all will be saved that comes to Jesus.
10) Does the security of a believer mean that God has given His promise and He cannot go back on it?
A) (Numbers 23:19) – 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
B) (Titus 1:2) – 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
To go back on a promise is to lie and as God, and Christ cannot lie.
C) (John 3:14-18) – 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
He has promised eternal life to each believer.
D) (John 5:22) – 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
E) (Matthew 7:23) – 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
F) (Matthew 25:41) – 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Yes all judgment has been committed to the Son, and so it will be His responsibility to cast people into Hell.
F) (John 6:37) – 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Yes, He has promised that under no circumstance will He cast those away that come to Him.
G) (John 10:27-29) – 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
Yes, He has stated that there is no power strong enough to take the believers from Him.
It is His power to fulfill His promises that brings security, and not man’s ability to keep him self saved by his works.
11) Does works alone save the believers?
A) (Ephesians 2:8-9) – 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
B) (Galatians 3:1-3) – 1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
No, your works offer no security and they will not save you.
In closing this bible study, I would like to ask you some very important questions. Are you saved my friend? Have you believed the gospel or have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? If so, my friends are you secure in Jesus? I ask you to be sure of your salvation and don’t let that old Devil trick you and be lost for all eternity. All God’s children are precious to Him and that is why Jesus died for all of the sins of all man kind on the cross.
