Book of Revelation – Bible Study – Chapter 6

“The Book of Revelation Chapter 6”

Introduction: This week we will continue our Bible Study lessons in chapters 6 of the Book of Revelation. Today we will study the opening of the six seals, which is the beginning of the Tribulation Period or Daniel’s Seventieth Week. These judgments are the same as what Jesus gave the disciples in (Matthew 24:4-31). (Please Read)(Matthew 24:4-31) “The Seven Seals Books or Scrolls are Opened.”

(Revelation Chapter 6:

I) (The First Seal is opened; The Conqueror) or the False Christ)

1) (Read) (Chapter 6:1); And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, “Come and see”. (KJV)

1) Explanation: (Chapter 6:1); And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals. (Now this refers to the Crucified, (risen Jesus Christ), and is proven by the use of the word “Lamb” and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts (Living Creatures) saying, “Come and see”. (Now this will follow the Rapture of the Church, (the Bride of Jesus Christ). But we aren’t told exactly how long after the Rapture the Great Tribulation will come. (Now these three words or phrase “Come and see”, says that it is destined and cannot be avoided). (KJV)

1) Comments: (Chapter 6:1); This is not the white horse rider of (Revelation 19:11). The white horse rider in (Revelation 19:11), is “Jesus Christ”; and He is coming from heaven with the armies of heaven to destroy the beast, the false prophet, and mighty men of the earth (Revelation 19:11-12). Now John said that he watched the Lamb (Jesus) open the first seal and he heard one of the four beast say with a voice like thunder, come and see! Here John was invited to look down and see the judgment of God on all those that were left behind after the Rapture. When Jesus Christ opens each seal. This opening of them triggers an action that takes place on the earth. The first four seals introduce the “four horsemen” of the Apocalypse, which is conquest, war, death, and famine on earth.

2) (Read) (Chapter 6:2); And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. (KJV)

2) Explanation: (Chapter 6:2); And I saw, and behold a white horse: and this symbolic, proclaims (the Antichrist) that presents himself to the world as a prince of peace). Now he that sat on him had a bow. (Now there is no mentions of arrows; and he preaches peace, but he is preparing for war, as this is symbolized by the “bow”). And a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. Now the “crown” represents the fact that he will conquer many countries. Now at first he does this by offering peace, but he will quickly change later and there will be war. (KJV)

2) Comments: (Chapter 6:2); Here John looked and said there was before him a white horse and its rider had a bow and was given a crown that indicated authority and the bow without arrows suggested that he would conquer the world by offering peace. (I Thessalonians 5:1-3) This rider on the white horse here is the “Anti-Christ”. (I John 4:3); and the; “man of sin” (II Thessalonians 2:3). This white horse rider comes with a bow, but no arrows. He comes in peace. He is the prince that shall come and make a covenant with Israel for seven years (Daniel 9:26-27). He comes with peace, with power and signs, and he does lying wonders. (II Thessalonians 2:9); This man is the (Anti-Christ) and not Jesus Christ who is describes in (Matthew 24:4-5). (Please Read the page on the Anti-Christ)

II) (The Second Seal is opened; Conflict on Earth) or war)

3) (Read) (Chapter 6:3); and when He had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, “Come and see”. (KJV)

3) Explanation: (Chapter 6:3); And when He (Jesus Christ) had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast (Living Creatures) say, “Come and see”.  (Now as we can see here, all the events on Earth are decided first of all in Heaven). (KJV)

3) Comments: (Chapter 6:3); John said that the Lamb which is (Jesus) opened the second seal and then the Apostle John said that he heard the second living creature say, “come and see”.  (This is John’s second invite to see what Heaven is like).

4) (Read) (Chapter 6:4); And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to that sat thereon to take peace from the earth and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. (KJV)

4) Explanation: (Chapter 6:4); And there went out another horse that was red. (Now the red horse portrays another symbol, and this time it is war). And power was given to him (the Antichrist) that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. (Now this proclaims the fact that more people will be killed during this time of the Great Tribulation than at any other time frame in our history).

4) Comments: (Chapter 6:4); John said that this is the same rider the (Anti-Christ). But now he is on a Red horse, which represents bloodshed in the land. The (Anti-Christ) is called the “Little Horn” in (Daniel 7:7-8) that turns on the other kingdoms and makes war. The (Anti-Christ) is also called a King of Fierce Countenance that shall destroy the mighty and the holy people in (Daniel 8:23-25). The (Anti-Christ) is also called the Beast in (Revelation 13:1-10) that is making war. This period of time is described by our Lord Jesus Christ in (Matthew 24:6-7) that tells about wars and rumors of war, and nation against nation, and also kingdom against kingdom.  We just read about these events in the book of (Matthew chapter 24).

III) (The third Seal in opened; (Famine on Earth)

5) (Read) (Chapter 6:5); and when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, “Come and see” And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. (KJV)

5) Explanation: (Chapter 6:5); and when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast (Living Creatures) say, “Come and see”. (Now this third Seal is as the previous two Seals, they were opened by Jesus Christ; and the time frame for this will most likely be in the second year of the Great Tribulation). And I beheld, and lo a black horse. (Now this represents famine, which always is followed by war). And he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. (Now this refers to the scarcity of food, and the pair of balances scales is meant to portray just that fact). (Read)(Ezekiel 4:24) (These are signs of coming Judgment of Jerusalem).

5) Comments: (Chapter 6:5); John said that this is the same rider the (Anti-Christ). But now he is on a Black horse; which represents Famine in the land. This Famine comes after the war and there is a shortage of food and water in the land. The pair of balances in his hand represents that there will be a rationing of food.

6) (Read) (Chapter 6:6); And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. (KJV)

6) Explanation: (Chapter 6:6); And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny. (Now the world has rejected Jesus Christ and the Cross, and now the world must face Judgment). And see thou hurt not the oil and the wine. (Now the petition, that the olive tree and the grape vine are not to be hurt, now that is that these particular plants need no cultivation. Now their ruthless destruction is forbidden).

6) Comments: (Chapter 6:6); This Famine comes after the war. The pair of balances in his hand represents rationing of food. A penny was a day’s wages in the New Testament times. A measure of wheat is about one quart, or one meal. The barley was used for the livestock, but in times of a famine, it is used for the people. Three measures of barley were enough for three meals, and will also cost a day’s wages. The oil and the wine represents the luxury’s that the people will have, but without food. Our Lord Jesus Christ described this period of time in (Matthew 24:7), when He said, “And there shall be famines.”

IV) (The fourth Seal is opened; Death on Earth)

7) (Read) (Chapter 6:7); And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, “Come and see”. (KJV)

7) Explanation: (Chapter 6:7); And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, “Come and see”. (Now the four Seal presents a horror of unprecedented proportions in chapter six).

7) Comments: (Chapter 6:7); John saw the Lamb which is Jesus, opening fourth seal and heard the voice of the fourth creature say, come and see. (This is John’s fourth invite to see what was in Heaven). What he saw was a pale horse that had Death and Hell following close behind him that was riding this horse.

8) (Read) (Chapter 6:8); And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. (KJV)

8) Explanation: (Chapter 6:8); And I looked, and behold a pale horse. (Now the pale horse symbolic means death). And his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. (Now this is signifying that almost all who died went to Hell). And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. (Now this probably refers to the Middle East and all its vicinity).

8) Comments: (Chapter 6:8); John said, this is the same rider the (Anti-Christ), but now he is on a Pale horse, which represents Death and Hell. This is the four-fold judgment upon Israel in (Ezekiel 14:21). The result of this judgment is that one fourth of the population will be killed. At the present time I believe that the world’s population is about eight and one half billion people. This would mean that the death toll would be about 2 and one half billion people if these numbers are correct that will die. Our Lord Jesus Christ called this time period, “the beginning of sorrows” in (Matthew 24:7-8). That is a lot of souls that will go to Hell. This tells me as a Christian we need to try harder in our witnessing for the Lord Jesus Christ.

V) (The fifth Seal is opened; (The Cry of the Martyrs)

9) (Read) (Chapter 6:9); And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: (KJV)

9) Explanation: (Chapter 6:9); And when He (Jesus Christ) had opened the fifth seal. (Now there is no announcement concerning the opening of this Seal, as it had been with the other Seals). John tells us here that he saw under the altar. (Now this is the Altar of Incense). These are the souls of them that were slain. (Now this does not refer to an intermediate state, for the Resurrection has already taken place, and all are now in Heaven and have a Glorified Bodies. The word “soul” is merely used in the sense of identification and not as a state). For the word of God, and for the testimony which they held. (Now this corresponds with the verse in (Revelation 2:11).

9) Comments: (Chapter 6:9); John said, when Jesus opened the fifth seal he (John) saw under the altar of the souls of those that were martyred for their faith. This fifth seal represents the Tribulation Saints that have been killed because they would not take the mark of the Beast in (Revelation 13:11-18.) All of these people were beheaded for their witness of Jesus Christ in (Revelation 20:4). Our Lord Jesus Christ described this time period in (Matthew 24:9-13). Here Jesus said that the believer shall be hated by all nations for His name sake. Now these martyrs are those who accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and by faith during the early days of the Tribulation and were beheaded for their faith in Jesus. These believers will not receive their resurrected bodies until our Lord Jesus Christ returns at the end of the Tribulation. (Revelation 20:4-5)

10) (Read) (Chapter 6:10); And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? (KJV)

10) Explanation: (Chapter 6:10); And they (the souls under the Altar) cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true. (Now this pertains to a far more than a cry for vengeance; more than anything else, it is a cry for the entire episode of sin and shame to end; now it is a culmination of the cry of all the ages). Dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? (Now it is certain that the Lord Jesus Christ will “Judge” and “Avenge” them). (Read)(Matthew 12:36-37)

10) Comments: (Chapter 6:10); John said, that the martyred cried out in a loud voice and ask the Lord God, how long until you judge the inhabitants of this earth and avenge our blood. The martyrs are eager for God to bring justice to the earth, but are told to wait. Now God is not waiting until a certain number is reached, but God has promised that those who suffer and died for their faith will not be forgotten. We as Christians may wish for justice immediately, as these martyrs did, but we must be patient. Just remember, God works according to His own timetable, and He promises justice for all.

11) (Read) (Chapter 6:11); And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. (KJV)

11) Explanation: (Chapter 6:11); And white robes were given unto every one of them. (Now the white robes symbolizes the Righteousness of the Saints). (Read): (Revelation 19:8); And it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. (Now they will have to wait until the conclusion of the Great Tribulation).

11) Comments: (Chapter 6:11); John said that each was given a white robe and told to wait a little longer; until that number of their fellow servants and brothers who were killed was completed. Now the earth’s population during the Tribulation will be reduced by a great number of people. God will slay those who follow the Anti-Christ and take his mark in (Revelation 13:18); which is the number (666). Now the Anti-Christ will slay many Tribulation believers that refuse to worship Satan during this time. There will be half of the world’s population will be dead by the middle of the Great Tribulation period. Now Brothers and Sisters that is a lot people that will go to Hell, All because they refused to believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ). (Acts 4:12) The Bible teaches that there is no other way, but the name of Jesus, than is given under Heaven among men whereby we must be saved.

V I) (The Sixth Seal is opened; (Anarchy or a Cosmic Disturbances)

12) (Read) (Chapter 6:12); And I beheld when had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; (KJV)

12) Explanation: (Chapter 6:12); And I beheld when He (Jesus Christ) had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake. (Now this is the first of several earthquakes). And the sun became black as sackcloth of hair. (Now this probably caused by the dust filling the air due to the earthquake). And the moon became as blood. (Now this doesn’t mean that the moon was actually turned to blood, but that it “became as blood.” Now again this probably is referring to the dust particles that filled the air).

12) Comments: (Chapter 6:12); John watched as Jesus opened the sixth seal and there was a great earthquake. John said that the sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair and the whole moon turned blood red. This is the sixth seal represents the physical judgments on earth. The Day of His Wrath
is come.
In (Joel 2:30-31) says; “I will show wonders in the Heavens and in the earth, and fire and pillars of smoke.”  The “sixth seal” will reveal a number of cosmic and terrestrial disturbances that will signal all of the earth’s inhabitants so that the (seal judgments) and this will initiated the predicted of “God wrath” against all that has rebelled in (Revelation 6:12-17). Now our Lord Jesus has also predicted these disturbances when He spoke of the coming earthquakes and other cosmic signs in (Matthew 24:7); (Luke 21:11); (Mark 13:8). This “sixth judgment” is universal and everyone will be afraid when the whole earth trembles from this great earthquake that God said would happen.

13) (Read) (Chapter 6:13); And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. (KJV)

13) Explanation: (Chapter 6:13); And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth. (Now this refers to meteorites or shooting stars). Even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. (Now there will be a bombardment on the earth of these meteorites, which will cause untold damage).

13) Comments: (Chapter 6:13); John said, the stars fell to earth as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord. Also compare this time with (Isaiah 13:9-10) and (Isaiah 34:4). Our Lord Jesus Christ also describes this time in (Matthew 24:29); Jesus said that the sun be darkened and the moon shall not give her light and the stars shall fall from Heaven.

14) (Read) (Chapter 6:14); And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (KJV)

14) Explanation: (Chapter 6:14); And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together. (Now this pertains to the shaking of the Heavens, which instigates the meteorites). And every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (Now this proclaims power of unimagined proportions. Now the greater thrust will more than likely be in the Middle East).

14) Comments: (Chapter 6:14); The Apostle John said, that the Heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together, and every mountain, and the islands were moved out of their places. Now when the sky is rolled back, then all the people on earth can see Him, (Jesus) that is sitting on the throne in Heaven.

15) (Read) (Chapter 6:15); And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; (KJV)

15) Explanation: (Chapter 6:15); And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; (Now this is a wasted effort, for men cannot hide from God; as well, as it takes in everyone from poverty to plenty).

15) Comments: (Chapter 6:15); John said that the Kings of the earth, and the great men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains. Now I tell you that no man can hide from the Almighty God in this terrible time.

16) (Read) (Chapter 6:16); And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: (KJV)

16) Explanation: (Chapter 6:16); And they said to the mountains and rocks, fall on us. (Now the foolish man now prays to the rocks to fall on them). And they prayed to the rocks to hide them from the face of him that sitteth on the throne. (Now this pertains to God the Father; let all of them understand, mankind, and that means everyone, is going to have to deal with the One who sits on the Throne).  And from the wrath of the Lamb. (Now the Lamb is the Savior today; and tomorrow the Lamb is the Judge).

16) Comments: (Chapter 6:16); John said, they called for the mountains and rocks to fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him  (Jehovah); that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb which is Jesus.

17) (Read) (Chapter 6:17); For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (KJV)

17) Explanation: (Chapter 6:17); For the great day of his wrath is come. (Now the “Great Day” is the coming of the Great Tribulation, which will last for Seven years). And who shall be able to stand? (Now this refers to the fact that man has set himself against God Almighty ever since the fall. Now man will see exactly how powerful God actually is).

17) Comments: (Chapter 6:17); John said, that the great day of His wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand? Only those who are saved and are protected by the Lord Jesus Christ will be able to stand, whether on earth or in God’s presence in Heaven. (READ)(Revelation 7:9-17)

Now as we come to the end of this chapter six in the book of Revelations, I would like to ask you a question about the condition of “you’re Soul”. If you were to die before this day comes to an end. “Where would your Soul spend eternity at? Now this is probably the most important question in your life. Would you like to ask Jesus to save you now? If so just keep on reading and the next few verses will tell you how to be saved.

Now all you have to do is just sincerely pray a simple prayer like this one here. “Please God, I confess to you my sins and need Jesus in my life right now. I will turn away from my sins and place my Faith in your Son Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Amen.”

Note: I pray that this Bible Study lesson about chapter five will help you in your studies and help you understand Gods’ word in the Bible. Please feel free to pass them on to other people if they have helped you.

Your, Brother in Christ
