First and Second Samuel are counted as one book in the Hebrew bible. Second Samuel is occupied with the reign of David; the full record of his life extends from I Samuel 16:12 – I Kings 2:11. Second Samuel begins with an account of the strife that preceded the establishment of David’s throne at Jerusalem.
